- Ok, I'll be honest, I haven't seen or used a Zip drive. I've got a SyQuest EZ drive, and it's
- really rather nice.

- The EZ drive lets you select the ID using some increment/decrement switches.

- : Yes it works just fine. The boot partition on my machine is kept pretty much

- : it. I set the boot priority to 4. If that disk is in the ZIP drive at boot

-
- I've got a humble A500+ with a GVP HD8+. I just plugged the thing in, run ExpertPrep, and
- AmigaDOS treated it just like an external disc drive ie. mounted at boot time, and able to
- use it as a bootable disc. The boot pri is actually the same as my existing hard drive, and
- external drive, although for some reason it takes priority over the hard drive despite the
- fact that the bootpri is the same. Not that it's a problem, it can be fixed with a different
- value.

- That's what I hear too. But Particularly Cumbersome machines need drivers for virtually
- everything. Basically this means that in most cases, you have to boot from the primary boot
- partition (usually C:) to load the drivers, and by that time, you might as well not have
- bothered. It is quite typical to have to change your BIOS just to boot from a different
- device. Not that I'm saying that PCs are kludges or anything!
-
- : Plug 'n' play: Only Amiga...
-
- Too right. Even on an Amiga as basic as mine, peripherals as cool as EZ drives, and ZIP
- drives are automatically integrated into the system. Do that on a P133 with Windoze 95/96!
- The only minor (and I stress that) problem with the EZ drive is that it has a wierd ejection
- mechanism (with a little lever that you have to push to lock the disc in place, and to remove
- it). Recommended.
-
- Personally, I think that Escom stores should stock the EZ drive and ZIP drive. If people are
- to recognise these as storage media that everyone should have, people should be able to see
- for themselves rather than read about them. Although if you've tried talking to the
- purchasing manager, you're more likely to get Bill Gates to turn himself in at his local
- serious fraud office. Ain't it great the way that they blatantly ignore any technology that
- doesn't rely on 20 years of kludging -NOT! (I'm not just talking about ZIP drives!)
